In this episode and chapter of one of my favorite Paintball Video series’, Avalanche has to win the last match in this best of 3 versus Impact.  The Pro Semi Finals at the 2007 NPPL Tampa Open, for Avalanche comes down to this.

In this video Avalanches hopes of forcing a best of 3 1 on 1 tie breaker, comes down to a 1 on1 in the final minutes of the 3rd match. Harvath battles the back corner, to win the match, setting up the tie breakers.

Whichever team wins 2 of the 3 1 on 1′s goes on to play for the Tampa crown.

First match-up; Danny Tiliak of Avalanche versus Josh Davey of Impact. Match 1 ends in a draw… Are these teams evenly matched, or what?!

Watch the video to see what happens.

Jamma's First Paintball Gun

My First Paintball Gun

Unlike Jamma I bought my first paintball gun before I had ever played the game. Heck, if it hadn’t been for finding that Nel Spot 007 at the Army Surplus store back in 1989, I would not have even heard of paintball.

But I remember the day I bought my first Autococker. And I didn’t buy some base model, no I went for Deluxe and bought the Bob Long Signature Series. It was green and yellow, reminded me of a dragon, so I named it Penelope… Yes I named my paintball marker!

But like Jamma, and I’d guess many paintball players, I thought the marker would make me great, after all, every great player I knew had a great paintball gun. And Just like Jamma, the first game with it taught me a valuable lesson, it is not the marker but the man (or woman).

What hurts more to get shot by, paintball or airsoft?

Or is it about the same? - GoAway

Basically it comes down to Mass x velocity = Momentum. A paintball has a mass of roughly 96 grams where as an airsoft bb is 0.12 up to 0.45 grams. Even if using the “high” weight bb’s and putting the velocity WAY over the limit at 550 fps it is still no-where near as much force as a 96 gram paintball traveling at 300fps.

Even the heaviest airsoft bb is 1/200th the mass of a paintball so it will take a very high velocity to hurt the same as being hit by a paintball.

Momentum IS used to determine the pain factor. In the case of a paintball, the collision of the ball with the your body is mostly inelastic, which means most of the force is transferred into you. In airsoft, the BB bounces off causing an elastic collision – some of the force is transferred back to the BB.

Paintball impacts with roughly .27 kg*m/s of force while an airsoft bb impacts with roughly .02114 kg*m/s. This is based on a zero distance shot, so basically the barrel touching the target. Distance decreases the force of impact because the velocity is decreasing. Due to the greater mass of the paintball the rate of decrease in velocity is less than that of the bb, so the further away the greater the difference in force. From point blank a paintball hits with 12 times the force, from 30 feet it hits with 200 times the force of the bb.

Part 2 of three from this popular Paintball Video series created by Planet Eclipse.

In this chapter Avalanche takes on Impact in the Semi-Finals at the 2007 NPPL Tampa Open. In my opinion these two teams are VERY evenly matched at this event. Which plays out in the video as the 1st match Impact wins, the second ends in a draw because Avalanche was unable to hang the flag before time expired. This is where this chapter ends. Chapter three begins with Avalanche having to win to force the series into a best of 3 1 on 1 play off. Do they succeed? Well I know because it happened three years ago, but if you don’t you will have to wait for tomorrows installment ;-)

Here Jamma tries to get redemption after the mishap of his first game. Rushing in boldly, he charges with reckless abandon into the unknown.

By this paintball comic strip I was starting to get who Jamma really was, and what I was realizing was he, was, me. Kind of.

I hate to sit and wait, I want to go get the other team. Shoot shoot, kill kill!

Sometimes that back fires.

Oh yeah, sorry for reposting the strip about Jamma’s first game. I have been putting them at my web comic site thefunniez.com as well, and had not posted the previous strip yet, so I assumed I had not posted it here either.

In this episode of Psychedelic Squirrels Jamma finally gets out on the field for his first game of paintball.

I would love to hear the story of your first game of paintball, and if okay with you, the best from the audience I will turn into comic strips with my new batch of characters.

So if you are interested leave a comment with your story, I might just make you famous.

Part one from this paintball video series titled Start Again. This video follows St. Louis Avalanche at the 2007 NPPL Tampa Open and their quest to return to the finals. In this first chapter, we watch Avalanche in their quarter final performance. Against  Farside,  Tiljak destroys the snake side giving them the win. Next up Dynasty, I could tell you what happened or you can just watch the video… Watch it ;-)

Jamma's first game of PaintballA paintball comic strip needs to progress through it’s life the same way a paintball player does. In these strips my characters are being developed at the same pace as the new player is learning the game. So this is the first game of our hero Jamma.

Everyone’s first game of paintball is different, as unique as the people who play it. This is Jamma’s first game.

Impact in the semi’s and finals at the NPPL Huntington Beach Surf City open. Every episode I watch of the ETV series reminds me of why I love Planet Eclipse. Thanks to a great run through on the third and final match versus Dynasty Impact beats Dynasty 2-1 in about 6:30. Impact is the first team in history to move from the Semi-Pro to pro bracket and make the finals on their first event. Yes this is ancient history, occurring in 2007, but I like the videos and want to share them with everyone.

The ETV series fills a niche that has been missing for several years in the paintball community. I think it is important to show the game at it’s highest level, mostly because it is a world that is only known to a small group of players, but is one that any paintball player can achieve, if they really set their minds to it. In no other sport, except maybe skate, is the top level so accessible to everyone. You just have to want it more than the next guy, and work to get there.

As you can tell from the change to a new main character, I was already beginning to evolve the strip in new directions.

I’ve always wanted to yell “Eat Gelatin Encapsulated Death, Whimpering Fiends!” while doing a run through in paintball, but the moment has thus far eluded me.
